Australasian Leisure Management is delighted to welcome members of the Australian Sports Professionals Association (ASPA) as part of its readership – with receipt of the printed Australasian Leisure Management magazine now a benefit of membership of the Association.

Formed in 2019, ASPA is an industry association for individuals who work, volunteer or study in sport in Australia – from club volunteers and paid administrators of small state/territory sports to chief executives and board members of large national sports.

Set up by the industry, for the industry it brings together like-minded individuals with professional careers and backgrounds in sport across Australia.

With a vision to strengthen the sporting industry through forming an individuals' association to bring its workforce together, ASPA has a mission to be the leading organisation in the Australian sports -industry - empowering individuals to build the capacity, efficiency and innovation of the sector via collaboration, communication and education.

A membership-based service, ASPA supports its membership through the provision of:

• Networking events;
• Training and education opportunities;
• Knowledge sharing sessions;
• Regular industry publications focusing on best practice and actionable case studies;
• Mentoring opportunities, and;
• Awards and recognition

Complimentary Memberships in 2020/21
ASPA is conscious of how the Australian sports industry has been rocked by COVID-19, explaining in a statement “events and competitions have been cancelled, displacing millions of participants and volunteers. On top of this, thousands of employees have lost their jobs. The sense of community which sport is renowned for has been threatened in a way like never before.

“(As a result), we’ve thought long and hard about what we can do to help the industry we love. With our famous events out of the question for now, we’ve turned our attention to digital resources and creating opportunities to share, learn and collaborate online.”

The result is that, until July 2021, ASPA will be offering complimentary memberships for anyone working in, or studying to work in, the Australian sports industry.
