National Gymnastics Clubs Carnival underway on Gold Coast
Gymnastics Australia’s National Clubs Carnival is underway until 7th October at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre.
With the support of Tourism Events Queensland and Experience Gold Coast, the multi-gymsport carnival will include more than 5000 athletes, officials and support staff as well as spectators from across Australia for the tenth edition of the three-week celebration.
The National Clubs Carnival has been held at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre since 2018 and the breadth of talent and skill that resides within the hundreds of gymnastics clubs Australia-wide will once again be on display at the venue.
Several international gymnasts will be taking part following the success of last year's carnival and the impact of Australian gymnasts making history at the Paris Olympic Games.
The three week schedule includes a mass participation Aero Schools event with more than 25 schools in attendance, spectacular displays of Free G a parkour style challenge and a Gymnastics for All gala performance.
Gymnastics fans can also enjoy watching inspirational performances in the competitive disciplines of Men’s and Women’s artistic, Acrobatic, Aerobic Rhythmic and Trampoline gymnastics.
Recently appointed Gymnastics Australia Chief Executive Alistair Edgar is thrilled to have the National Clubs Gymnastics Carnival happening within his first month in the role noting “The National Clubs Carnival is a momentous gathering for the gymnastics community and a great celebration of our valued member clubs.
“Through our extensive member club network, Gymnastics Australia offers participation and competition pathways across every gymnastics discipline. The benefits and offerings of our sport will be on full display throughout the carnival.
“We have a long-standing relationship with Tourism and Events Queensland and we are delighted to welcome thousands of gymnasts and their families back to the Gold Coast for a great sporting and holiday experience.”
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate added “Securing major events is part of our long-term plan to activate the world-class GC Sports and Leisure Centre and I know that hosting 5000 gymnasts over two weeks fits the bill perfectly.
“I wish sponsors, organisers, competitors and families success and look forward to seeing you in 2025, 2026 and beyond!”
The event will also include a series of workshops to upskill athletes, coaches and officials on topics like better understanding rhythm and movement, polishing performances, technique, conditioning and mechanics for all gymsports.
