Alistair Edgar appointed as new Chief Executive at Gymnastics Victoria
Former state team athlete, high-performance coach, event director, and regional club operator, Alistair Edgar has today been announced as the new Chief Executive of Gymnastics Victoria.
Edgar brings an impressive blend of gymnastics credentials, and business and public sector leadership experience to the role with Gymnastics Victoria Board Chair, Molina Asthana noting “Alistair is an accomplished executive and industry leader who is well respected within the gymnastics community. He has previously held leadership positions in both state and local government and was selected via a very competitive process involving a number of credible applicants.
Recently returning from a family trip in Belgium where Victoria’s top gymnasts were on show at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, Edgar is excited to commence in the role immediately and shared “I look forward to working closely with the Gymnastics Victoria Board and staff to offer value-adding and contemporary services to member clubs and participants across the state.
“It is my intention to work together with club leaders, Gymnastics Australia, and our valued partners to deliver the best possible outcomes for the Victorian gymnastics community.”
Edgar is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and holds an Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of Melbourne Business School.
Simon Gadsden has been acting Chief Executive for Gymnastics Victoria over the last seven months. The Board thanks Gadsden for his valuable contribution during this time and welcomes his return to the position of General Manager of High Performance and State Gymnastics Centre Operations.
This transition happens during an exciting time for Gymnastics Victoria, with the 2024 Paris Olympic Games just around the corner, Victorians of all ages will be inspired to participate in gymnastics.
Gymnastics brings significant health and economic benefits to the Victorian community and through its strong network of member clubs and nationally accredited coaches, Gymnastics Victoria is well placed to offer recreational participation opportunities and pathways from grassroots through to Australian team representation.
