Gymnastics Australia launches ‘Discover the Freedom’ campaign to redefine the sport

With the Australian Gymnastics Championships currently underway at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre, Gymnastics Australia, in conjunction with the State and Territory bodies, have launched the new ‘Discover The Freedom’ campaign nationally - inviting people to join the sport’s ever-growing community and to “unlock the freedom to explore, excel, and thrive”.

‘Discover The Freedom’ aims to redefine gymnastics beyond the sport itself and encourages all Australians to use gymnastics as a platform for personal growth and self-exploration.

Gymnastics NSW Chief Executive Rebecca Shaw has been heavily involved in the development of the campaign and the ‘Discover The Freedom’ campaign also has the strong backing of other state chief executives Alistair Edgar of Gymnastics Victoria, Chris Rushton of Gymnastics Queensland, Nastashia Buck of Gymnastics South Australia , Rob Clement of Gymnastics Western Australia and Jayde Martin of Gymnastics Northern Territory.

The two concepts that underpin the campaign are that gymnastics is what an individual makes of it and is freedom in its truest form.

Through ‘Discover The Freedom’, Gymnastics Australia is eager to encourage all Australians to soar without constraints, leap without limits, move with joy and unleash their full potential.

Gymnastics Australia interim Chief Executive, Chris O’Brien notes “‘Discover The Freedom’ is born to create a culture of inclusivity, fun and empowerment.

“Movement is everywhere. Movement is at home, at parks, at schools, in the streets and the freedom of that movement is what makes gymnastics special.

“In our sport, everyone can enjoy that freedom of movement in a safe way, where everyone can stand up and embrace their skills and unique journey.

“Through ‘Discover The Freedom’, we intend to trigger a ripple effect of positivity and motivation, inspiring more and more people across the country to find their place in gymnastics and beyond.

“Being an Olympic year, there is going to be added attention on gymnastics with our athletes destined for Paris, so there is no better time to spread this powerful message.”

Shaw enthuses “‘Discover The Freedom’ is a celebration of movement, joy and personal growth in gymnastics.

“We are extending open arms for people to join our ever-growing community and unlock the freedom to explore, excel, and thrive in our dynamic sport that holds endless possibilities.

“People take centre stage in this campaign. We shine the spotlight on hard work, achievements, and success in gymnastics, while also demonstrating their resilience and passion.

“The spread of ‘Discover The Freedom’ through each state across Australia is transformative for gymnastics.”

The campaign was developed in partnership with Dreamjar Studios, an award-winning creative agency based in Melbourne that specialises in storytelling and strategic design.

The team at Dreamjar focuses on combining Art+Science, and building brand experiences that connect with customers and drive results. Their work has won a multitude of awards including Golden Brush Award, FoxGlove, IBDA and many more.

Somesh Jagga, Principal, Dreamjar Studios added "We’re thrilled to witness the nationwide rollout of 'Discover the Freedom' campaign. Collaborating closely with Gymnastics Australia has been an incredibly rewarding journey for our team, who've poured their hearts into this with the aim to capture the beauty and exhilaration of gymnastics.”

The campaign has emerged from recent workshops on the future of the sport, with an eye towards the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, conducted by the national, state and territory bodies.
