Million Moves Campaign aims to boost physical activity in Queensland and Western Australia

Leading Australian operators and suppliers have rallied behind AUSactive’s upcoming Million Moves campaign, launching on 1st September.

The 21-day community physical activity campaign, funded by the Queensland and Western Australian governments, and the Australian Sports Commission, will run across both states, as well as in Ballarat in Victoria and Wollongong in NSW.

Aimed at addressing the high levels of physical inactivity, the campaign asks participants simply to pledge for free to move for three weeks during September.

The campaign will achieve significant community reach, supported by a digital marketing campaign, and range of supporting community, health, sporting and disability support organisations. Numerous ambassadors and Ministers have also put their name behind the campaign. Sponsorship from Revo Fitness will see digital billboards across Perth promoting the campaign reaching 39% of the adult population.

Participants will have access to a range of resources and fitness apps with Les Mills, 3d me, Zumba and SWEAT providing free app access to all participants during the campaign.

Participants will receive free access to a wide range of local opportunities to move, through an activation directory, from walks and community events.

Leading operators will open their doors, providing free access a network of over 600 facilities during the campaign, including Goodlife health clubs, Genesis, Jetts, SNAP and Anytime Fitness. In addition, participants receive access to free classes at leading brands including BFT, F45, S30, UBX and Club Pilates.

Sponsors including Bodybike, Blackroll, LSKD, Coles, Fit into Shape, Matrix Fitness, Flex fitness, Kinta and Inbody have contributed to a total prize pool exceeding $130,000, available to individuals and organisations who sign up with team prizes for gyms, employers and schools.

Matrix and Revo have partnered to sponsor two $25,000 school gym fit outs with Matrix equipment as prizes, together with Inbody creating a $60,000 prize pool for schools.

Leading operators including Club Lime, Goodlife, Jetts, SNAP, Anytime, BFT and UBX have donated free memberships to the prize pool.

Looking forward to the campaign, AUSactive General Manager (WA), Mike Beeney advised "this initiative is a huge opportunity for our sector to demonstrate its critical role in getting Australia more physically active. We put a call to action out to the sector to support this important campaign, and they delivered.

"This initiative is not just good for the physical, mental and community health of Australians but its also good for business. The generous donations from suppliers will provide a great incentive for organisations and individuals to sign up, with significant prizes up for grabs.

"The leading operators have all come onboard to drive this campaign in providing community access to their facilities during the campaign. This is an industry ‘open day’ on a grand scale and will get more of the community in our gyms and moving in September. We encourage every professional and organisation to support this campaign."

Individuals or organisations including gyms, fitness professionals, organisations, employers and schools are encouraged to sign up at www.millionmoves.org.au to support this campaign.
