AUSactive to rollout Million Moves initiative in Western Australia
Following its successful inaugural Million Moves event on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in May this year, AUSactive is set to roll out the initiative in Western Australia in May 2025, with the expressions of interest registration for businesses, professionals and local companies now open.
Million Moves is a fantastic community-led initiative that brings people together while getting active and moving daily across a three-week period.
With the Million Moves on the Sunshine Coast having seen the local community achieve more than two million moves, it’s time for Western Australians to inspire a more active WA by jumping on board and showing their support for the initiative.
Speaking at the ExPro Fitness Summit and Festival today in Perth, AUSactive Chief Executive Barrie Elvish said the aim of the Million Moves initiative was to get more people moving across all communities within metro and regional Western Australia.
Elvish noted “the Western Australia Million Moves initiative, supported by the WA Government for the next three years, will target all community groups across the 15 federal electorates across the state over a three-year project.
“Did you know that 75% of Australians don’t get the required amount of physical exercise a day? The Million Moves initiative is a challenge for everyone to move 75 times a day for 21 days to build up a new routine.
“This challenge is for all ages and abilities and moves can be big or small, it’s just about getting active each day.
“Sunshine Coast participants said the sense of community and access to new facilities and classes were the highlight of their involvement in Million Moves.”
To take part in Million Moves participants can register and pledge their commitment to complete a minimum of 75 moves each day for 21 days.
During the pilot Sunshine Coast Million Moves more than 1,300 people completed the challenge across four federal electorates and the Western Australia Million Moves is set to be even bigger.
Elvish said AUSactive’s focus was on getting more people more active more often and initiatives such as Million Moves helped people create new fitness and activity habits.
Elvish highlighted “as Australia’s leading association for active health and exercise, we are focused on getting more people active – not only for their physical health but their mental health and overall wellbeing.
“We know regular physical activity has many benefits to us as individuals, but it also has a domino effect in preventing lifestyle related illness and health problems which can greatly relieve the pressures on the Australian health system.”
