AUSactive launches new edition of Work Health and Safety Guide for industry

AUSactive has released its new edition of the Work Health and Safety Guide for Exercise and Active Health Businesses, offering an updated and practical resource to support safe practices in the fast-evolving industry.

Authored by Dr Betul Sekendiz, Managing Director of Fitness Industry Risk Management Consulting (FIRMC®), Associate Professor of Business and Sport Management at the International College of Management Sydney (ICMS), and the Chair of the Health and Fitness Industry Standards Council, the new edition reflects the latest legal and regulatory requirements while addressing the growing diversity and complexity of services across the industry.

Dr Sekendiz notes “over the past decade we have witnessed a swift evolution in the industry, featuring diverse modalities and a workforce that caters to the health and wellbeing needs of a broader community.

“Technological advancements and global trends have introduced more innovative and personalised services tailored to individual needs. Therefore, ensuring health and safety in the industry has become more paramount, not only to ensure legal compliance but also to maintain long-term viability and success.”

The AUSactive guide is non-mandatory but serves as a critical tool for business owners, managers, and professionals, whether they are running an established business, launching a new venture, or adding new services.

It includes clear procedures, checklists, and practical strategies to help evaluate, revise, or build new WHS programs to proactively manage both physical and psychosocial risks.

Developed in consultation with a focus group of WHS professionals and reviewed by the Health and Fitness Industry Standards Council, the guide reinforces the importance of leadership, communication, consultation, and awareness in building a strong safety culture.
