Melton Council commences construction on $31 million indoor stadium
Construction of the $31 million Cobblebank Indoor Stadium in Melton, situated on Melbourne's western rural-urban fringe has commenced..
The largest project ever undertaken by Melton Council, Cobblebank Indoor Stadium is scheduled to open in late 2021 with the impressive six-court, multipurpose facility providing access to a range of sports including basketball, netball, badminton, table tennis, volleyball and futsal, along with school programs and community health and wellness programs.
Back in 2017, Council approved the Toolern PSP precinct (Cobblebank) as the site to develop a new high ball indoor stadium. Mantric Architecture were awarded the design contract in December 2018 and delivered a design incorporating a six court stadium including all amenities, seating, reception, kiosk, social spaces, car parking and landscaping.
Contractor H.Troon began preparing the site at the corner of Ferris and Bridge roads in March 2020, already completing site establishment, site clearing and ground levelling. The project is on track with excavation works in progress and building foundations being poured.
City of Melton Mayor Lara Carli was pleased to see the site beginning to transform enthusing “it’s a fantastic feeling to see an active construction site here, and to think about how well-used these courts will be when they’re complete.
“Demand for sporting facilities is on the rise, and as a Council we’re doing what we can to support our young, active community in their sporting endeavours.
“This is a massive project, the largest value we’ve ever undertaken, and something I’m certain the whole community can be proud of.
“I can’t wait to see sporting clubs and community groups make the most of this stadium.”
The project will include six indoor high-ball courts (including show court and seating); player, referee and public amenities; an administration and reception aree; flexible meeting and social spaces; kiosk and seating areas and car parking.
