IAKS ANZ to stage Aquatic Access for All Abilities workshop at Independent Living Expo

The International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities Australia and New Zealand (IAKS ANZ) is to stage half day workshop at the upcoming Assistive Technology Suppliers Australia (ATSA) expo on Tuesday 21st May 2024 at Sydney Olympic Park.

The workshop, 'Aquatic Access for All Abilities',' aims to provide valuable insights into aquatic therapy and the availability of programs.

Tailored for occupational therapists, physiotherapists, aquatic operators, planners, consultants and representatives from the community sections of councils, the workshop will open with keynote speaker, Louise Sauvage, Ambassador for Disability Sport Australia.

Sauvage will share her inspiring story on how water therapy transformed her life, highlighting the significant impact aquatic activities can have on individuals with disabilities.

Attendees can look forward to a diverse lineup of speakers from various professions who will share their expertise and insights. Topics covered will include aquatic therapy benefits, pool safety measures, reducing barriers to access, identifying suitable aquatic locations, and tips on building clinicians' confidence in implementing aquatic therapy programs.

IAKS ANZ spokesperson, David Burns advises “we are thrilled to host this session, bringing together professionals from different sectors to discuss the importance of aquatic access for individuals of all abilities.

"Our aim is to encourage further participation in aquatic therapy and programs, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for many."

The event is sponsored by Fluidra Commercial, the manufacturer of SR Smith aquatic access hoists. Fluidra Commercial offers the largest range of aquatic hoists in Australia, ensuring safe and accessible aquatic experiences for all.
