Gumbuya World to present digital light experience showcasing Indigenous culture

Traditional First Nations storytelling will meet cutting-edge technology at Gumbuya World with the upcoming presentation of Gumbuya Dreaming, an innovative digital light experience created by acclaimed Indigenous artist Wayne Quilliam.

Taking place amid the winter wonderland of Gumbuya World, this inaugural event - running from 8th June to 21st July -  will present a journey of 60,000 years in the dreaming, intertwining artistic mastery with the rich tapestry of First Nations stories.

Spreading over 1.74 hectares, the experience will see Gumbuya World’s Lazy River will be transformed into an illuminated billabong, while a soundscape will immerse visitors as they walk the wildlife trail’s luminous park and wander among glowing trees. Indigenous stories and artwork will be brought to life in special zones featuring interactive installations the whole family can enjoy.

Commenting on the event, Quilliam advised “each one of these zones is connected through our traditional storytelling, a culmination of my knowledge and the all the stories that have been told to me.

“We’ve created this as a meeting place to share our stories with the world and tell the history of the land it’s sitting on.”

In addition to the light experience, visitors can enjoy the excitement of the park’s thrilling and leisurely rides, and indulge in mouthwatering delights from a selection of food trucks.

At the heart of Gumbuya lies its Aboriginal meaning ‘meeting place’.
