Fish N Flips Swim School in Townsville experiences growing popularity

Since its opening on 4th July 2022, more than 450 children have signed up for swimming lessons at City Venue Management’s new Fish N Flips Swim School located in Townsville’s new lifestyle destination, Fairfield & Co.

Fish N Flips is a play-based children’s swim school with classes for babies up to 12 years old.

Fish N Flips’ flagship, purpose-built venue opened as part of Stage 4 of Fairfield & Co. It was their second entrance to Townsville, after opening a swim school at Douglas in January.

The developer behind Fairfield & Co, Geon Property Chief Executive Ben Griffin congratulated Fish N Flips for creating such an appealing, modern venue for children and their families.

Griffin noted “securing Fish N Flips at Fairfield & Co is fantastic for residents and the school’s philosophy of ‘play, laugh, learn’ has great synergy with our growing lifestyle destination.

“Swimming and playing in water are a rite of passage when you’re growing up in Townsville, so it’s great to see so many parents wanting their children to be safe and confident in the water.”

Fish N Flips General Manager Logan Maguire said feedback from parents had been positive adding “our group has more than 30 years’ experience in swim schools, so we were able to work with builders and designers closely to ensure the facility met our exact requirements.

“This included everything from the pool depth to the location of the bathrooms and change tables – all of this was carefully thought out from a best practice standpoint.

“Parents appreciate the newness of the facility, our play-based approach to learning, and our seven day a week opening hours, including evenings and weekends, as our lessons suit different work schedules.

“The children seem to already love being called ‘little fish’, which is what we call our students, while our teachers are known as ‘Flips Crew’.”

Maguire said the free baby classes offered to the community were the most popular so far.

“We have about 40 babies enrolled in our under six months bub program, which – like all our classes – run continuously and students are no locked into contracts or terms, meaning new students can sign up at any time,” Maguire added.

“It’s great to see so many young children enrolled in our free program because when kids are swimming young, they’re learning fundamental lifesaving skills much sooner.

Fish N Flips at Idalia will be able to accommodate up to 1,000 students, and with its popularity growing, Maguire said he was always on the lookout for swim teachers who are recruited and trained in-house adding “we want to build a community of teachers from the area who love their role and stay in it for a long time."

In 2022, Fairfield & Co has transformed into an experience-based destination, bringing exciting tenants to Townsville including flagship stores for Urban Climb and X-Golf. This vibrant hub is still growing as it continues to cater for the ever-changing needs of local residents and visitors.

Fish N Flips Swim School is located within Stage 4 of Fairfield & Co, 1 D’Arcy Drive, Idalia.
