First stage of $14.8 million Broadbeach Cultural Precinct opens

With design and construction work completed by Paynters Pty Ltd and Peddle Thorpe Architects, the Broadbeach Cultural Centre has been unveiled with an upgraded auditorium, new dance studio, multipurpose hall and meeting room – all with new Audio-Visual sound and lighting technology.

Formerly known as the Albert Waterways community centre, the project has revamped and extended one of the Gold Coast’s most visited community spaces with an additional 515m2 of recreational space.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said this is the first stage to open in the $14.8 million makeover to the Broadbeach Cultural Precinct.

Mayor Tate noted “every great city needs great community facilities that allow people to gather both professionally and recreationally close to public transport. The Precinct is providing the community with those creative and social spaces that support a vibrant lifestyle.

“The Cultural Centre has opened right in time for the New Year and we can’t wait to see residents and visitors making the most of the improved spaces and facilities.”

The state-of-the-art facilities are available to hire. Organisations who provide activities that the community can attend are entitled to great discounts off the normal hourly rates.

The entire precinct has been redeveloped with a new look and the addition of a new café, new public amenities and more parking.

The refurbished Broadbeach Community Space within the precinct will also be officially opened in January.

The Cultural Centre is now open for inspection and bookings. For more details visit the Broadbeach Cultural Precinct page on City of Gold Coast website.
