Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre backs youth mental health charity
Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre and headspace Greensborough have become charity partners for an annual Charity Netball Tournament.
With headspace, the leading national organisation supporting young people to overcome mental health issues, and Centre manager Clublinks recognising that they both work hard to help a range of local community members, in particular young people, Centre Manager Kris Bartlett explains “this partnership, and the proceeds from our upcoming charity netball tournament, will help young people in our local community access headspace’s range of mental health support services. They do a wonderful job and we’re proud to partner with them”.
Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre and their staff will be raising money throughout the year with a range of ongoing activities, culminating in the annual Charity Netball Tournament to be held on Wednesday 29th November.
All proceeds raised on the day will directly benefit the local community.
This new partnership comes at a time when mental health, and in particular mental health for young people, is at the forefront of social and government focus. Research indicates that one in four young Australians will experience a mental health problem within any 12 month period.*
Christine Denton, Service Manager at headspace Greensborough adds “physical activity is one of the best things people can do to lift their mood, so we are thankful for this opportunity to introduce the new Greensborough headspace to the local community in such a fun and positive way.”
Nillumbik Shire Council Mayor Peter Clarke has congratulated the Centre and headspace on teaming up to help raise funds for youth mental health.
He adds “this is a great initiative that will raise funds for local youth mental health services, while at the same time destigmatising negative perceptions around mental health issues.”
