CVM Academy offers aquatic industry an innovative staff training solution
With the aquatic industry among a number of industries challenged by ongoing staff shortages, City Venue Management’s Registered Training Organisation - CVM Academy - is offering a school based traineeship program to help pools as they prepare for summer.
Mindful that without a large intake of qualified employees these shortages will limit optimal commercial performance. Nicky Sloan, Chief People Officer at City Venue Management advises that CVM’s school-based traineeship program commenced well before the impact of COVID and the subsequent nationwide talent shortage.
Explaining that the company’s foresight has helped address their base recruitment strategy, Sloan declared “our traineeship program was initially implemented to address a skill shortage within the industry and has now turned into our pipeline of talent, giving us the ability to shape and mould school students into the future leaders of our business. Investing in and growing our young people not only helps them develop to their full potential it helps our business performance and ability for growth.
“The pathway opportunities provided to students has been incredible with ex trainees in management and site support roles all throughout our business. The most notable success story is Emily Bower who started as a School Based Trainee six years ago and is now the General Manager of our Registered Training Organisation – CVM Academy”.
When asking Bower about her experience she shared “completing a School Based Traineeship with CVM was the best thing I ever did. I was trained and mentored all the way through. It gave me the opportunity to earn while I learnt and equipped me to leave school industry ready. The opportunities are endless”.
Through CVM Academy (RTO 31946), City Venue Management are working with multiple external businesses to support them in developing their own school-based traineeship programs. Students are sourced to place in businesses and are offered all the necessary training to complete their relevant traineeship qualification.
Heath Rackley of Halogen Pools and City Venue Management advises “this program has been a game changer for us. There is a definite shortage of qualified pool technicians in our industry, this gives us 12 months of on the job training to prepare young students for post schooling pathways and a future career in our business and more importantly our industry at large.
Sloan adds “we are expanding our offerings and are looking to reinvent the learning journey that students deserve and make learning fun with a digital first approach through gamification and virtual reality. We currently have over 150 trainees and would love to support more businesses with implementing these pathways for school-based trainees to help alleviate some of the staffing strains being experienced across industries”.
