Comprehensive risk and safety assessments undertaken in advance of 2015 Sydney Royal Easter Show

With the 2015 Sydney Royal Easter Show set to start tomorrow (Thursday 26th March), carnival ride operators have been put through a strict regime of risk and safety assessments.

In the wake of a series of amusement ride incidents at shows in Australia in 2014, event organisers the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RASNSW) have been thorough in their assessment of rides during theisr set-up.

An RASNSW statement advises “the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW has a Work, Health and Safety Policy to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all who visit the Sydney Showground (with) a  number of health and safety measures ... added during the Sydney Royal Easter Show to ensure a memorable experience for all who attend and are involved in this iconic event.

“The Sydney Showground Schools Venue Assessment has been developed by Sydney Showground to ensure that all who visit the Showground have a safe and enjoyable experience.”

In advice to showgoers, RASNSW advise “the Showground is very different to other venues.

“It is a venue for any variety of exhibitors and promoters to show a wide range of products and services and to carry out all kinds of functions and entertainment including exhibitions, sporting, animal, social, theatrical and musical events.

“At times there are large animals, vehicles, crowds, temporary structures, amusement rides and building activity in all kinds of environments and weather conditions.

“All of these activities have a degree of risk that should be considered when attending the Showground.

“As you proceed around the Showground, take care to observe and follow all signage and any instructions that you may be given.”

In terms of entertainment, the 2015 Sydney Royal Easter Show will be offering traditional favourites along with new events and attractions, to excite both young and old.

Show Chief Operating Officer Michael Collin explained “there’s over 12 hours of free entertainment at the Show.”

Each night in Spotless Stadium, Showgoers will be treated to a performance by Xtreme Corruption and the extraordinary talents of the Human Cannonball Lady, Jennifer Schneider, one of three female cannonballs in the world. Visitors will be left astonished as the American launches herself 20 metres in the air at speeds up to 70 kilometres per hour.

A must see at the 2015 Show is Dinosaur Ice World. Showgoers will be transported back to the Ice Age with this interactive, walk-through exhibition. In a fully-themed area featuring snow trees, ice rocks and even falling snow, visitors will come up-close to a life-sized Woolly Mammoth, Woolly Rhinoceros, Penguin family and a rare Glyptodont.

This year, ShowLink tickets are not available for purchase on train stations or Sydney Olympic Park Major Event Buses. However, same-day return public transport is still included in every ShowLink ticket purchased, via the Show's new ticketing partner Ticketmaster, with the majority of purchases now occurring online

The Sydney Royal Easter Show runs from from 26th March to 8th April 2015.
