Chlorine issue sees temporary closure of Launceston Aquatic Centre

The Launceston Aquatic Centre was forced to close three of its pools on Saturday as a result of a blocked chlorine pump.

According to the Centre's Facebook page, the block was caused by a small chunk of chlorine “the size of a pea” blocking the hose meaning the pools had to be re-sanitised and treated manually.

The pools affected included the learn-to-swim pool, the toddler pool and the children's play area while the competition pool, gym, spa and program pool were still available for use throughout the issue.

With swim school classes moved to the program pool to reduce inconvenience, City of Launceston General Manager Michael Stretton, advised “the fault was quickly rectified by staff and the pools were re-opened around noon.”

The City of Launceston agreed at its July council meeting to a $200,000 upgrade to a number of the Centre's features.

The funding will be used to relocate the learn-to-swim office, a new external sign and new internal finishes and fittings.
