Chlorine leak closes Orange Aquatic Centre

The Orange Aquatic Centre has been closed this week while cleaning up operations are undertaken following a chlorine leak in the facility’s plant room.

Staff and patrons were evacuated from the facility on Tuesday morning when the leak from a chlorine tank was discovered.

The Centre failed remained closed on Wednesday with the pools expected to reopen today (25th October).

While the leak has been repaired, SafeWork NSW made an assessment of the site and determined it required a professional clean up on Wednesday.

In a statement, Orange Aquatic Centre's management said it understood the public’s “frustration with the closure of the centre”.

The statement advised "our first priority is the safety of our staff and our swimmers. We apologise for the disruptions."

Staff attempted to notify parents and guardians with children in learn to swim classes on Wednesday, which have been cancelled, with payment for the lessons credited.

The statement added "once we can access the plant room we will begin to treat the water again to bring it up to normal water quality standards.

“We will then let you know as soon as we do, when we can reopen.”
