SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre looks forward to 2012 Olympic trials hosting
The YMCA is welcoming Swimming Australia's announcment that the South Australian State Aquatic and Leisure Centre, which it manages, has won the rights to host the London Olympic selection trials next year.
It marks the first time the Olympic trials have been held away from Sydney's Olympic Park Aquatic Centre in over a decade and is big win for the new aquatic centre.
YMCA Chief Executive John Summers said that the YMCA was "extremely excited" at the Swimming Australia announcement, stating that the "facility is perfect for hosting major events and the YMCA welcomes the opportunity to help ensure the 2012 Australian Swimming Championships is a memorable occasion."
City of Marion Mayor, Felicity-Ann Lewis said the win was a huge vote of confidence in new centre, stating "South Australians have waited 20 years to see elite swimmers compete in Adelaide and it is only fitting that this occurs at the best aquatic centre in the nation."
