Celebration to mark new chapter for the Y NSW in Port Macquarie

Following the Y NSW becoming Port Macquarie Hastings Council’s new ‘aquatic centre partner’, taking on the management of its four public swimming pools, the Y NSW is welcoming the opportunity to celebrate with the community at the Port Macquarie Olympic Pool on Saturday, 14th May.

The Y NSW is an industry-leading aquatics management provider that started serving the Port Macquarie community on Anzac Day - now the Y is celebrating with its free family event for community members of all ages.

The Y NSW will also be celebrating the first weekend of National Families Week and hope to see the Port Macquarie-Hastings community come together for this special day.

The Y supports National Families Week theme that families are the bedrock of the community. Their recreation centres strive to continually expand on programs to accommodate all members of the family.

Area Manager of Recreation and Camps Alisa Wells notes “we were so excited to open the doors to the community on Anzac Day. Now we get to really put on a special Y welcome to officially celebrate this new chapter for the Y in Port Macquarie.”

The Y worked in close collaboration with BlueFit, who delivered aquatic services for the past two years, to ensure a smooth transition and retain many of their familiar faces as part of the Y family.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Deputy Mayor Adam Roberts said he looked forward to welcoming the Y on Saturday and added “Council is extremely pleased to be able to welcome the Y to the Port Macquarie-Hastings region as the new manager of our four pools.

“We were fortunate to receive such a strong bid from the Y to manage Council’s four aquatic facilities at Laurieton, Port Macquarie, Kendall and Wauchope.

“Knowing the success they have delivered in other regional communities throughout NSW, I am confident that our community will benefit greatly from their services.”

The Y NSW will be introducing programs for people of all ages, people living with a disability, and for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Executive Leader of Operations, Brooke Atkins adds “Significantly, budget surpluses at the facilities will pour back into the pools and be reinvested into life-changing Y NSW community programs like Uplift and Y Space, building on the organisation’s mission statement ‘We believe in the power of inspired young people.”

The Y NSW has active partnerships in more than 10 Local Government Areas across New South Wales. The Y NSW is partnering with PMHC to manage Port Macquarie Olympic Pool, Wauchope Memorial Olympic Pool, Kendall Community Pool and Laurieton Swimming Pool.
