The Y NSW secures contract for Western Sydney University gyms

The Y NSW has been awarded a long-term agreement for the management and operation of Western Sydney University’s gymnasiums at its Hawkesbury, Bankstown and Penrith campuses.  

Y Chief Executive Susannah Le Bron advised “given the Y is the oldest and largest youth organisation in the world, we are true specialists in the youth space, the Y is a perfect fit for Western Sydney University. We make it our business to support young people achieve their fitness and wellness goals and we’re looking forward to further enhancing the vibrancy of the Western Sydney University community.

“We’ve seen great success through our management of the University of New South Wales’ Fitness and Aquatic Centre and we are thrilled to be expanding into another reputable local university that shares a strong global brand similar to that of the Y.”  

Western Sydney University Vice-President (Finance and Resources) Peter Pickering noted the Y was a natural fit for the job “Western Sydney University recognises the importance of building campus communities that are centred on health and wellbeing and the Y has a proven track record in this regard.

“The Y focusses on providing wellness, educational, and recreational services to diverse communities and is committed to ensuring that student, staff and community needs are met, whilst further activating and enhancing offerings at the facilities.” 

The Y will consult with students at each campus regarding the new fitness programming to ensure classes are optimised for each community. However, members can expect an expanded fitness offering across the gyms.  

As part of the agreement the Y has also committed to reinvesting into the University and broader communities by running initiatives such as the Y’s own ‘Uplift’, an active mental wellbeing program for young people and a range of youth and community inspired on-campus events.  

The University’s gyms will be closed from 20th December while undergoing some exciting changes by the Y and will reopen on Monday 13th January.

The gyms will open with reduced classes until the major launch event which is scheduled for Tuesday 28th January 2020.  

The current fees and charges will remain unchanged for the opening of the Y’s management of the University’s gyms, with consideration to be given to affordable membership options in future.  

The Y is working to support employees through the transition and will be engaging with staff extensively throughout the coming months.
