YMCA NSW provides new features at Oberon Pool Complex
With Oberon locals rushing to the Oberon Pool Complex to beat the heat, YMCA NSW, which recently took on the management of the facility, is providing a range of new features and opportunities.
Having commenced management of the Oberon Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre (currently under construction) in October, YMCA NSW Area Manager Shane Simmons advises that the not-for-profit body has enjoyed a great start to summer at the centre with 446 visits between 12th and 31st October and 86 children taking swimming lessons.
Simmons explained “we’ve listened to the Oberon community and made a bunch of great improvements to the pool including the new 6am opening time, improved enclosure for warmth and air circulation, improved security, new pool blankets and dedicated lap swimming and walking lanes
“There are now Aqua Aerobics classes on offer, with birthday parties and Family Fun Days coming soon.”
Sharing her satisfaction at being able to offer more opportunities for regional youth and the wider Oberon community, YMCA NSW Chief Executive, Susannah Le Bron added “we currently employ nine local staff in Oberon, with that number expected to grow as the Fitness Centre opens in 2020.
“As we all know, regional NSW is in the grips of a record-breaking drought, so it’s so important that we offer opportunities to stay well and stay connected and the pool and new Fitness Centre will do just that.”
The brand new Fitness Centre is currently under construction and due to open in January 2020, creating at least two additional jobs.
The Oberon Pool and Fitness Centre is managed by the Y NSW in partnership with Oberon City Council.
