The Y NSW seeks lifeguards and swimming instructors

The Y NSW is urging young people to apply for positions as lifeguards and swimming instructors and will provide on-the-job training.

Youth unemployment rates are rising with the Australian Bureau Statistics figures showing a jump from just under 11% in September to just over 13% in October.

The Y, as one of Australia’s leading employers of young people, currently has 250 great jobs on offer across New South Wales.

The Y offers work and career pathways in sport and recreation facility management, operations, business development, human resources, childcare, youth and community services, administration, business planning and strategy, communications and marketing.

Natalie Thomas, Executive Leader of People and Culture at the Y NSW advises “we believe in the power of inspired young people – we hire them, we train them, we develop and value our talent.

“We are urging young people to apply for positions as lifeguards and swimming instructors in particular, as these are great starting points with flexible work arrangements that provide on-the-job learning in teaching, customer service, community engagement and leadership.

“You don’t need to have prior experience – we will train you – and from there, your options with the Y are so diverse and the potential for your career is endless.”

Shane Simmons adds “I started my career at the Y NSW as a lifeguard at Hawkesbury Oasis Aquatic and Leisure Centre – that was 13 years ago. I’m now the Head of Growth and Business Development – so the Y backs its people to learn, thrive and build a career.”

There are 250 jobs currently on offer at the Y NSW, including:

  • In Recreation: Roles for Swimming Instructors and Lifeguards in multiple locations, plus roles in Gymnastics, Fitness and Customer Service.

  • In Children’s Services: Educator, OSHC Coordinator, Creche Assistant, Children’s Services Manager.

  • In Corporate: Senior Media and PR Advisor and People & Culture Business Partner.

This is not an exhaustive list – you can view all of the Y’s positions vacant here.
