Bruce Prance Dryland Diving Centre at HBF Stadium welcomed as state-of-the-art facility

Officially opened at the end of last month, the new Bruce Prance Dryland Diving Centre at HBF Stadium - a World Aquatics international standard centre available to local, national and international divers - is already being put to use.

Opened in time to host the 2023 Diving Australia Open Championships, the facility enables divers equipment where they can perform acrobatic jumps without water.

Honouring the pioneer of diving in Western Australia, the late Bruce Prance OAM, the facility is seen as being a great support for local and national athletes in their aspirations for Commonwealth and Olympic success.

Equipment at the facility includes two competition standard trampolines, six springboards, a foam pit consisting of 23,000 foam blocks and 1 metre and 2 metre diving platforms which will help divers practice 10 times as many repetitions than traditional water-based training.

It also features a video replay system.

Connected to the existing diving facility at HBF Stadium, divers only need to walk through a door to go from the dryland to the tower.

It is anticipated that the new facility will enable Western Australia to retain home-grown diving stars as they work toward Olympic and Commonwealth competition.

The Centre also provides an administrative home to state sporting association Diving WA with office space, athlete areas and a meeting room.

The standalone facility was developed by the Western Australian Government and VenuesWest, with funds announced in mid-2020 as part of the Western Australian Government’s $300 million investment into sport and community infrastructure.

Advising that the new facility ensures athletes have a full space to train and dive, Diving WA Chief Executive, Rachel Burrows commented “the dryland facilities and home of Diving WA will provide many exciting opportunities for the sport of diving in WA.

“Athletes’ training in all pathways and squads will be enhanced by the diving-specific training centre.”
