HBF Arena usage grows by 50%

An outstanding 50% increase in patron usage in the last quarter at HBF Arena can be attributed to population growth in Perth’s northern corridor, award-winning facilities and a diverse range of programs.

Owned and managed by VenuesWest, research into the usage of the facility shows:

• 91% of patrons attended HBF Arena for community use such as sporting functions, childcare, and recreational programs
• 8 for elite sport use, and
• 1% for commercial use.

This skew towards community use demonstrates the importance of the venue to the community in the region and backs VenuesWest’s programming that caters for many interests and ages.

Commenting on the growth in usage, VenuesWest Chairman Graham Partridge OAM stated “from July to September more than 281,000 patrons visited the venue, which is 50% above the same time last year.

“HBF Arena is also the proud home of multiple community sporting competitions including rugby, netball and hockey.

“The results clearly indicate a combination of factors including record levels of population growth migrating to the Northern Suburbs over the last few years and our award winning Health and Fitness Centre, which has retained its Gold Quality Award status from Fitness Australia for the third year in a row.

“It is also a result of us having a broad range of activities available to all age groups such as Swim School, Splash and Bounce, child care, Kids Gym, Fit Club, Junior Triathlon Training and many more.”

Figures from the City of Wanneroo, the next suburb east of Joondalup, show the suburb is attracting record levels of population growth with 21 new residents residing within the area every day.

This is an average population growth of 8,000 people each year.

In 2013, the City of Joondalup estimated the resident population grew to more than 167,000.

These numbers are driven by rapid development of housing estates on the urban fringe and the employment opportunities available thanks to the economic development and investment into roads, construction and transport in Perth’s Northern Growth Corridor.
