HKCEC new website receives Gold Award in web accessibility recognition scheme
The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) has received the Gold Award in the website category of the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme co-organised by The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Equal Opportunities Commission.
The HKCEC’s new website (www.hkcec.com), revamped and launched last September by Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited (HML), enables people with visual impairment to easily obtain information about the HKCEC.
To qualify for the Gold Award, the new website has fulfilled 24 stringent requirements, for example, almost 1,000 photos and graphics are supplemented by alternate text descriptions, and over 50 PDF files with venue technical information or location maps have undergone treatment by special software, so that the visually impaired can read the images with their own reading devices.
Commenting on the receipt of the award, HML Director of Communications Mabel Hung stated “as a demonstration of HML’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, ‘web accessibility’ has been identified as a priority objective of the website revamp, at the planning and design stage, to ensure that the content is easily available for all, including people with visual impairments.
“At HML, we are always striving to improve the usability and compatibility of our customer interfaces. We will continue to make information as well as services more accessible and user friendly for customers and the public, including those with special need.”
