Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre attracts over 70,000 visits since Australia Day opening
More than 70,000 people have visited the Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre since its opening on Australia Day.
Both the 25 metre indoor and 50 metre outdoor pool proved popular during Sydney’s February heatwave, as has the children’s zero depth splash pad.
With the wet weather over past few weeks, the indoor pool has remained a hit.
The outdoor pool features salt chlorinated water while the indoor pool is chlorinated and has a ramp access.
Since opening, swim squads and learn-to-swim classes for all levels have commenced with, to date, more than 1,200 people having enrolled in swim lessons, while 500 have purchased multiple visit passes and more than 1,000 people have joined the gym.
Group fitness classes include aqua, Les Mills, Pilates and boxing.
Todd McHardy, Managing Director of facility manager BlueFit explains “it’s a great start to the new facility and members are loving the brand new equipment.
“BlueFit is proud to operate the new Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre on behalf of Bayside Council.
“Our team have done a great job working hard in partnership with Council at getting through one of the hottest Sydney weather periods in recent history.
“The facility really hold the crowds well (and) we are already booked out for next February's school carnival season and looking forward to continuing to grow the health club membership and swim school enrolment bases.”
Parents can leave children in the Bluebottles crèche with caring and experienced staff while they enjoy the gym facilities or swim laps in the pool.
“Community feedback is that the centre is certainly a great asset, and the school carnivals that were held so far have all been very successful.”
The inflatable and splash pad parties are now in action with four to five parties every Sunday. At each party there have been around 20 children while around 100 children per week have enrolled in the tutoring program.
Commenting on the successful opening period, Bayside Council Administrator Greg Wright stated “we are excited that the Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre opened two months ahead of schedule and within the $24.3 million budget.
“The $24.3 million covers the design and construction project and includes the gym.
“FDC Constructions & Fitout and Bayside Council completed the project without incident or injury to any worker
“It’s an important community asset and we are delighted that it’s so popular.”
