Australian Waterslides and Leisure launch new waterplay features
Australian Waterslides and Leisure Pty Ltd (AWL) have launched a new childrens waterplay equipment range called KIPS (Kids Interactive Play Structures) completing the first installation of the largest KIPS 5 Zone version in Cairns.
AWL has also completed the installation of three waterslides at the City of Tea Tree Gully's Waterworld Aquatic Centre in South Australia. Two of the rides are 800 mm-diametre tube and open Fast Straight Line Drop slides while the other is a combination of 1,200mm diameter tube and open Reversebanked SupaJet slide.
On the straight line drop slides, riders are plunged down a 9 metre drop at 45 degrees before landing into runouts. The rides have a minimal water delivery (20 to 30 litres per second) to lubricate the rides, making them faster as well as more environmentally friendly. In designing the waterslides, AWL wrote its own flume calculation software program integrated with AutoCAD to enable safe and exciting configurations to be designed accurately making the most of utilising 3D modelling.
All rides of the slides at Waterworld can give a different experience for the riders in the case of body rides, the ride experience can differ due to the type of swimmers the ride is carrying (giving a varied co-efficient between ride surface and the rider) also due to water volumes, and rider weight.
The Coffs Harbour-based company have also recently subsidised the cost of supplying and installing waterslides and waterplay equipment into the Alawa Aboriginal Community in Hodgson Downs in the Northern Territory - a six hour drive south east of Darwin.
AWL Managing Director Annette Matthews explains "this was such a feel-good project for us at AWL as it was not about providing slides for someone to look at the bottom line after each day of trading, it was all about the kids having clean healthy exercise and fun."
