AEG Ogden wins five year extension of Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre operations

The Queensland Government has announced that facility manager AEG Ogden will continue as operator of the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) for a further five years.

Acknowledging AEG Ogden’s role over 21 years of management at the South Bank Corporation-owned convention centre, Queensland Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning Jackie Trad hailed the work of the international venue management company, stating “we can now look forward to at least a further five years of this highly successful partnership.

“The Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and AEG Ogden and its predecessor companies have been kicking goals together since BCEC opened in 1995.”

AEG Ogden Chairman and Chief Executive Harvey Lister said AEG Ogden was proud of its Brisbane roots and looked forward to further advancing the city’s image on the world stage.

Lister (pictured below) explained “BCEC is our flagship venue in a network that includes arenas, stadiums, convention and exhibition centres and theatres through Australia, Asia, and the Middle East.

“We’ve worked hard over the past 21 years to establish and grow its fine reputation, and look forward to building on this success in the next period of our partnership.”

AEG Ogden won the management rights for the centre for a further five years with a five-year option in an open tender process conducted by South Bank Corporation.

Commenting on this, Deputy Premier Trad added “it’s wonderful news that BCEC will again be in these capable hands.

“In July this year the venue added ‘Best Convention Centre in the World’ to a string of prestigious awards it has received over the years.

“Since it was built on part of the former World Expo site, the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre has been a centrepiece venue for the people of Brisbane, Queensland – and in a very real sense, the world.

“In 2014 it hosted the G20 meeting of world leaders, and it is a regular destination for state, national and international conferences and conventions.”

Deputy Premier Trad said BCEC’s 1200 events a year attracted investment and visitors to Brisbane, concluding “BCEC continues to be a major contributor to boosting Queensland’s economy. In 21 years of operation the centre has contributed almost $4 billion to our economy and has brought 14 million guests through its doors.”
