Zap Fitness opens 34th facility in Melbourne's Surrey Hills

Tasmanian-based 24/7 fitness group Zap Fitness has opened its 34th club in the Melbourne suburb of Surrey Hills.

Located at 607 Canterbury Road, Surrey Hills, the new club is equipped with Precor Experience Series and Discovery Strength Equipment and backed with Precor powered by Preva Networked Fitness.

The low-cost gym franchise operates at locations across Tasmania and Victoria as well as a single gym in the Adelaide suburb of Edwardstown.

Zap Fitness is Chaired by Bob Cheek, a former leader of the Tasmanian Liberal Party when in opposition. Cheek left politics in 2002, before going on to found Zap Fitness, which opened its first gym at Rosny, close to Hobart’s Blundstone Arena (Bellerive Oval) in 2008

Explaining the success of Zap Fitness’ business model, Cheek told Tasmanian newspaper The Examiner “we've taken customers away from conventional gyms, there is not a doubt about that ... we're offering a model people want.”
