YMCA Victoria moves to 24/7 gym operations
YMCA Victoria will commence opening many of its fitness facilities as 24/7 gyms from August.
The first facility to move will be in Knox, followed by gyms in Geelong, Horsham, Casey and Oak Park by the end of the year.
The YMCA then plans to grow the format across more of the 29 gyms that it manages in 2019.
Advising that the move to 24/7 gym access is in line with the leading not-for-profit’s commitment to providing flexible and inclusive exercise options to the community, YMCA Victoria Health and Wellness Product Manager, Troy Walker explains “activating these significant recreation assets we manage on behalf of our Council partners is a priority, and better community access is the goal with the move to the 24 hour format.
“Having flexible choices has become a way of life for many people, especially those who are time-poor. The change to 24/7 removes barriers and provides an option that suits all lifestyles.”
As part of the move to 24 hours, some YMCA facilities have undergone upgrades to allow Group Fitness programming to be complemented by Virtual technology.
Already, as a result of this technology, class numbers have grown significantly, creating more options for members with limited time to exercise.
Commenting on this, Walker added “the new technology has allowed us to provide Group Fitness during all opening hours and creating a real point of difference.
“The YMCA wants to encourage everyone to be more active, so providing 24 hour access in a safe and secure environment in communities around the state will help achieve this.”
