24/7 gyms increase to 26% of all gyms and fitness centres

More than a quarter (26%) of gyms and fitness centres in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong, now operate 24 hours a day.

The findings from the annual Fitness Industry Survey, show this proportion rose by 15% from last year when only 11% of all gyms and fitness centres were open 24/7 faciilities.

The survey also looked at types of club ownership among respondents, finding the following membership patterns:

• Privately owned – 24%
• Multisite operators – 14%
• Franchised club – 40%
• University club – 4%
• Council owned/managed – 5%
• Council owned/contract managed – 2%
• Other – 11%

With over 11,000 members and nearly 1,000 clubs responding to the survey in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong, the Fitness Industry Survey survey is the largest of its kind in the world.
