Casey extends facility partnership with YMCA
The City of Casey’s gymnastics and stadium facilities will be managed by YMCA Victoria for the next 10 years, continuing a strong and successful partnership of almost two decades.
Casey Council has confirmed that the YMCA will manage Endeavour Hills Leisure Centre, Berwick Leisure Centre and Casey Indoor Leisure Centre, with both parties excited by the potential for growth.
YMCA has played an integral role within the City of Casey for the past 19 years, also managing Casey ARC, Casey RACE and Doveton Pool in the Park on behalf of Council. The 163 year-old not-for-profit organisation is an industry leader in gymnastics lessons, swimming lessons, child care, stadium sports and health clubs throughout the state.
City of Casey Mayor Sam Aziz underlined the close relationship between the two organisations after the announcement, stating “following a successful two decade partnership, Council is pleased that the YMCA will continue to manage gymnastics and stadium facilities within the City of Casey for a further 10 years.
“Council is looking forward to continuing to work with YMCA to further develop sporting opportunities for both our residents and players from further afield.”
The YMCA maintains a strong commitment to improving the health and wellness of the City of Casey community which is situated in the South East growth corridor of Melbourne and one of the fastest growing Council areas in Victoria.
YMCA Casey Area Manager Matt Spencer also expressed his pride by the renewal of the contract.
Spencer added “we’re pleased to continue our long relationship with the City of Casey and proud to carry on our vision of helping the community become healthier, happier and connected.”.
Included in the management contract will be the newly redeveloped Casey Indoor Leisure Centre.
Due for completion in 2017, the centre will feature 10 full sized basketball and netball courts, including a show court hall with spectator seating up to 1,500 people, a function area and new commercial café.
Looking forward to the new facility, Spencer commented “the new facility will be one of the most prominent indoor sporting venues throughout Victoria and will have the versatility to host major national and international sporting events and competitions.”
Spencer announced plans for the redeveloped facility and significant capital co-investment from both parties. The plan includes a range of new programs, including futsal, gymnastics and indoor cricket, with the community and underrepresented groups within it benefiting from increased access and program availability.
Spencer concluded “at YMCA, we pride ourselves on our ranges of services to cater for all groups within society.
“By securing this contract, we are able to provide even more programs and live up to our mission of ensuring everybody has the opportunity to grow in body, mind and spirit.”
