Wyndham's newest sporting project

Wyndham City Council's latest major sporting project is underway with the construction of the Wyndham Vale South Sports Pavilion.

Devco Project and Construction Management are undertaking the $2.5 million for the new pavilion which will feature:

• Social room;
• Four change rooms;
• Fully-equipped semi-commercial kitchen and bar;
• Two rooms for umpires;
• Covered outdoor area; and
• New car-park and lighting.

Iramoo Ward Councillor John Menegazzo said the pavilion would complement the construction works already underway at the site, stating "we are currently constructing two sporting ovals and once they are complete this area will be-a sporting hub for the Wyndham Vale community.

"These facilities are important to our sporting community as they create places where residents can exercise, relax and socialise.

"Over the past six months, Wyndham City has awarded over $8 million in construction contracts for sporting facilities, including the Haines Drive Sports Pavilion and Car Park, the Glen Orden Pavilion Extension and the Wootten Road Reserve."

"Wyndham City is continuing its commitment to providing sporting infrastructure in the proposed 2012/2013 budget, with plans for the construction of four soccer pitches at Galvin Park, reconstruction of oval 2 and partial funding for pavilion and changes rooms at Hogans Road Reserve."

The Wyndham Vale South Sports Pavilion is expected to be complete in mid 2013.

Wyndham City Council's extensive sport and recreation infrastructure project at Saltwater Reserve in Point Cook will be a feature in the November/December 2012 issue of Australasian Leisure Management.

The Council is also undertaking research into current and future implementation of skateparks, BMX and cycling facilities across the municipality.
