Saltwater Coast Lifestyle Centre wins commercial architecture award
NHArchitecture, designers of the Saltwater Coast's recreational hub, the Saltwater Coast Lifestyle Centre, have been awarded the Sir Osborn McCutcheon Award for Commercial Architecture at the 2012 Victorian Architecture Awards.
Completed in December and formally opened in February, NHArchitecture were recognised for delivering a "sophisticated and welcoming building that uses materials and forms immediately at home" for the community recreation hub in the coastal landscape of Melbourne's west.
The Lifestyle Centre is positioned at the heart of the Saltwater Coast development allowing residents to keep fit and active all year round with a broad range of sporting and recreation facilities.
Equipped with a gym, outdoor resort pool, indoor heated 25-metre lap pool, children's pool and two tennis courts, residents now have the opportunity to stay active and socialise with the Saltwater Coast community.
Social facilities at the Lifestyle Centre include a communal barbeque area, a café and a 100-seat function room with envied city skyline views.
Evian Delfabbro, FKP Executive General Manager of Developments in NSW and Victoria, sees the Lifestyle Centre as the social, sporting and recreational focal point for Saltwater Coast residents of all ages.
Delfabbro explains "active lifestyle opportunities are in abundance for the Saltwater Coast community now that the Lifestyle Centre is open.
"Residents have the very latest sporting facilities that are little more than a hop, skip and jump from their front door.
"Just 20 kilometres from Melbourne's CBD there are new lots with excellent sporting and recreational facilities that are surrounded by pristine wetlands and tranquil parklands and beaches." Located in Point Cook, Saltwater Coast's unique coastal surrounds combined with the facilities available in the Lifestyle Centre ensure that recreation is a key feature for the recently created community.
In addition to the Lifestyle Centre, Point Cook is set to become a community and recreation hub with the creation of one of Wyndham City Council's largest sporting facilities, Saltwater Reserve.
When complete, the reserve, which borders Saltwater Coast's southern and eastern boundaries, will feature three AFL and cricket ovals, eight tennis courts and three football fields all designed to cater for the growing Point Cook community.
Delfabbro adds that "with (the) Saltwater Reserve and Coastal Park recreational facilities nearby, Saltwater Coast residents will be able to do everything from enjoying a swim at the beach, a hit of tennis, or a game of footy down at the oval.
"With almost 35% of Point Cook's population aged under 19, these new sport and recreation facilities will provide terrific facilities for our growing community.
"Homebuyers recognise the fantastic opportunity Saltwater Coast presents to live in an active and dynamic community."
Once complete, Saltwater Coast will comprise around 2,300 homes and will feature approximately 52 hectares of open space, wetlands and parklands to complement its natural setting.
Each home will be located no more than 400 metres from a park and design guidelines are in place to ensure each home reflects a contemporary architectural quality outcome.
A partnership with Telstra Velocity for fibre optic technology will allow for state of the art communication services to homes within Saltwater Coast.
