Blacktown Arts Centre presents impressive program of events for Blacktown City Festival
The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre is offering an impressive program of events during this year’s Blacktown City Festival running until 29th May.
Blacktown City Mayor Tony Bleasdale said this year’s festival is bigger than ever before, and features great creative and cultural events and activities for the whole family.
Mayor Bleasdale notes “I’m delighted to see the return of the Blacktown City Festival this year after two challenging years for our City.”
Songlines and Sightlines offers an interactive exhibition where visitors can draw directly onto the walls of The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre. Artists and Dharug knowledge holders Leanne Mulgo Watson and Erin Wilkins, with urban sketcher Peter Rush, depict the city and the places we love alongside plants, animals and Dharug creation stories.
The celebrated First People’s composer Troy Russell presents The Last Shot, a powerful music performance filled with tales of romance, heartbreak, and tragedy in colonial times. This performance is on show from 19th-22nd May.
demi-DEMO parachutes into Blacktown with a team of champion skaters, BMXers, parkourists and dancers over four days at Alpha Park (20th-23rd May). Branch Nebula presents a season of high-speed performances in time for Blacktown City Festival. After each performance the artistic team from demi-DEMO will lead audiences in workshops on skateboarding, BMX, parkour/freerunning, and dance.
On 25th May, The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre and FUNPARK, present an inspiring conversation led by the future leaders of Mount Druitt as part of an insightful special edition of The Mount Druitt Press Conference. Featuring insightful conversations on everything from education to stigma, cultural barriers and violence, The Mount Druitt Press Conference promises to provide plenty of food for thought and invites the community to be part of the solution.
The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre is a division of Blacktown City Council. Blacktown City Festival is represented annually by Blacktown City Council.
