Wrexham AFC set to tour Australia and New Zealand during July
Wrexham AFC, the English Football League side whose global exposure has exploded since being acquired by North American actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2021, are set to undertake a pre-season tour to Australia and New Zealand, playing three games in July.
The Welsh club, newly promoted to the second tier of English football, will take on Melbourne Victory on 11th July at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium before facing Sydney FC at Sydney's Allianz Stadium four days later.
Promoted by TEG, the Wrexham Down Under Tour will then conclude in New Zealand with a match against Wellington Phoenix on 19th July.
The tour aims to tap into interest in the club generated by the Welcome to Wrexham television series, in advance of its 2025/26 season which is set to kick off on 8th August.
Wrexham has toured the United States and Canada in the previous two Northern Hemisphere summers but the scheduling of FIFA's 32 team World Club Cup has prompted the club to look to Australasia to further develop its international audience.
Introducing the tour, TEG Sport Managing Director, Rachael Carroll stated "bringing Wrexham AFC to Australia and New Zealand for three exciting matches against top A-League sides is truly a one-of-a-kind event,” said Rachael Carroll, managing director of TEG Sport, which is promoting the tour.
“This tour is more than just football – it’s a celebration of global sporting culture, entertainment, and fan connection.
“Whether you’re a die-hard football supporter or just love a great story, these matches promise unforgettable moments and fun for everyone.”
Unlike last year’s tour where the club’s women’s team also played, this time it will only be the men’s team that travels.
