Wellington's Sky Stadium trials new Mobility Transfer Service for major events

Ahead of the Foo Fighters concert this Saturday 27th January, Sky Stadium is trialling a new Mobility Transfer Service to assist fans from Wellington Railway Station to the venue.

This new service, being trialled for the first time at a major event, is designed to enhance accessibility and convenience for fans with mobility needs making their way from Wellington’s central transport hub up to the entrance gates at Sky Stadium.

Its key features include:

1. Continuous Transfers: A Total Mobility Van, provided by Wellington Combined Taxis, will shuttle patrons from Platform 10 to the Stadium entrance gates on a continual loop between the hours of 4.00pm and 8.00pm. This will ensure fans with mobility requirements can arrive at the railway station during this period and have certainty they can make their way up to the gates easily.

2. Dedicated Pick Up Point: A dedicated pick up point will be set up at the station end of Platform 10 at Wellington Railway Station. Look out for the large sign and dedicated Red Badge event staff who will be on hand to assist fans, provide information and ensure a smooth experience.

3. Inclusivity and Accessibility: The service is designed with inclusivity in mind, accommodating fans with varying mobility needs. The Total Mobility Van is fully wheelchair accessible. This service will be available to all patrons who require assistance with covering this distance from the station to the Stadium.

Sky Stadium Marketing Manager, Alex Bargh commented "at Sky Stadium, we are always looking at ways of improving the experience for our fans with mobility needs.

“The distance between the railway station and the entrance gates is often a barrier for those using public transport and cannot walk long distances or manage the pedestrian ramps.

"We hope that this trial goes some way to improving the stadium experience for all our fans.”

The trial of this service is for pre-show only and will operate between the hours of 4pm and 8pm.

As with all major events, it is recommended that fans with mobility requirements arrive as early as possible to ensure a relaxed arrival to the Stadium with plenty of time to purchase merchandise, food and drink and make their way to seats in time for the start of the show.

Following this Saturday’s concert, feedback will be sought from those who used the service, and should the trial be deemed successful, Sky Stadium will look to continue the service at other major events during the year.

Alternative ways of getting to Sky Stadium on event day for those with mobility needs.

Fans in a vehicle with a valid mobility pass can be dropped off at the lower level of the stadium car park at any time from 12.00pm.

People movers will be running to transport fans who need assistance from the lower level of the car park, and from the top of the Thorndon Spiral along the Fran Wilde Walkway to the entrance gates. Please note the service along the Fran Wilde Walkway will operate when it is safe to do so.

People movers will run in reverse at the end of the night once most patrons have left the venue (approximately 30 minutes after show end). Please look for the designated waiting area on the Inner Plaza.

Rest areas are also in place along the Fran Wilde Walkway for anyone who needs to use them.
