Foo Fighters lead resurgence of stadium rock in Australia
The historic three hour performance by rock supergroup the Foo Fighters at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium last Friday night has marked, at short notice, the dramatic return of international live music acts to Australia’s major venues.
Attended by more than 30,000 fans, the concert - part of a major statewide live music program being delivered by the Victorian Government - was staged just 10-days after being announced.
Presented as part of the ALWAYS LIVE program, a new state wide music celebration which will be held across regional Victoria, central Melbourne and surrounding suburbs in 2022 - the Foo Figthers 4th March concert will be followed by a program of dozens of events held at venues across Victoria later in the year.
As teased by Foo Figthers frontman Dave Grohl on stage last Friday night, the band will drive the return of live music experiences in major venues in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Wellington and Auckland.
The band has long been popular in Australasia, having sold millions of albums and toured the country a dozen times.
The spring tour will be band’s first headline dates of both countries since 2018.
Tour dates will be:
Wednesday 30 November
HBF Park, Perth
Sunday 4th December
AAMI Park, Melbourne,
Saturday 10th December
Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
Monday 12th December
Accor Stadium, Sydney
Thursday 15th December
Sky Stadium, Wellington
Saturday 17th December
Western Springs Stadium, Auckland
