Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast reopens to visitors
Rebounding from the severe Christmas Day storm that caused the closure of theme parks in the Gold Coast suburbs of Helensvale and Oxenford, Village Roadshow has announced the reopening of its Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast waterpark as of today.
However, suffering from a power supply issue which is expected to be resolved later today, Dreamworld’s WhiteWater World waterpark will not reopen until tomorrow.
With heatwave conditions prevailing across south east Queensland, operators Village Roadshow and Ardent Leisure are keen to have their waterparks operating during what should be their busiest time of year.
Village Roadshow, which in order to “assess damage” sustained in the Christmas Day storm, closed its Oxenford attractions Wet’n’Wild, Warner Bros. Movie World, Topgolf Gold Coast and Paradise Country on Boxing Day. This left only Sea World at Main Beach open to the public.
With Movie World opening yesterday (27th December), Wet’n’Wild’s opening today prompted Village Roadshow Theme Parks Chief Operating Officer, Bikash Randhawa to advise the Gold Coast Bulletin that with forecast warmer weather “we are expecting strong visitors numbers” for Friday.
Randhawa added “we are excited to have our three major theme parks, Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World and Wet’n’Wild open and operational and we’re looking forward to welcoming guests to the parks.”
Randhawa said teams worked “tirelessly” since Monday to remove “debris, fix critical infrastructures and make the parks safe for our guests to re-enter”.
Wet‘n’Wild’s reopening will also see the return of its ‘Dive‘n’Movies’ with extended trading hours, and Movie World’s Hooray for Hollywood movie parade.
However, Village Roadshow’s Paradise Country remains closed while Topgolf is closed “indefintely” for damage repair.
Randhawa concluded “due the extensive damage, Topgolf, Paradise Country and Farmstay will have lengthier closures for the safety and wellbeing of our guests and team members and we will provide updates on reopening dates when available.”
Dreamworld also reopened as of yesterday.
