WaterMarc Banyule tops Let’s Move For a Better World challenge
For the second time in three years Banyule City Council's WaterMarc facility has been recognised as Australia's top performing facility in Technogym’s Let’s Move For a Better World challenge.
Worldwide, 513 clubs across 21 countries took part in the challenge and approximately 122,000 participants tracked their workouts on Technogym equipment, resulting in 400 million MOVEs (Technogym’s unit of measurement for movement) and 170 million calories burned.
Among Australia’s 12 participating fitness facilities, WaterMarc Banyule took out the top spot, with the club’s members collecting more than 1.7 million MOVES. As winner of the challenge, the club gets to donate state-of-the-art Technogym equipment to a nominated cause and has chosen their local school Montmorency Secondary College to be the recipient.
Technogym’s defining mission is to help people around the world be more active, healthier and happier. The global Let’s Move campaign was created three years ago to help tackle the global issue of childhood obesity.
Commenting on the challenge, Technogym President and founder Nerio Alessandri explained “now in its third year, the results of the 2016 Challenge have far exceeded expectations.
“This is an incredible testament to what can be achieved when enterprises, communities and technology work together to make a difference. Technogym is proud to play a part in providing the tools for individuals and facilities to get healthy and take on social causes like childhood obesity, raising awareness and affecting change in their local communities.”
WaterMarc achieved the most MOVEs for Australia during the first Let’s Move For a Better World challenge in 2014.
Technogym’s Let’s Move For a Better World challenge – a worldwide social campaign to raise awareness in the fight to end childhood obesity – ran from 1st to 19th March 2016.
