Wanneroo City Council approves business plan for Alkimos Aquatic and Recreation Centre

The long-discussed new aquatic and recreation centre in the Perth suburb of Alkimos is a step closer to breaking ground following the Wanneroo City Council’s approval of the advertising the facility’s business plan.

The plan, endorsed by the Alkimos Aquatic and Recreation Centre Working Group at the end of last month, provides an assessment of the development and operation of the facility.

The news comes after the Council also accepted $25 million in funding for the project via the Federal Government’s Priority Community Infrastructure Program.

Welcoming the funding, Wanneroo City Mayor, Linda Aitken stated “Alkimos is expected to be one of Perth’s fastest growing suburbs over the next 20 years and the delivery of the Alkimos aquatic and recreation centre will have a strong positive impact on the City’s future planning for our northern corridor community.

“We are grateful to the Federal Government for providing funding to help us provide the community with access to this state-of-the-art recreation facility…

“It is fantastic to be entering the next phase of this exciting project and I am looking forward to the completion of the detailed design later this year.”

Set to be built within the Alkimos Central Development, adjacent to the future Alkimos METRONET station and scheduled to be completed by 2026, the facility will feature the following amenities:

  • Eight lane, indoor 25m pool

  • Indoor water play space

  • Warm water program pool

  • Eight lane, outdoor 50m pool

  • Spa and sauna

  • Four indoor hardcourts with spectator seating

  • Health club with programme rooms and personal training space

  • Creche with outdoor play

  • Function Room

  • Community meeting rooms

  • Retail space

  • Café

  • Office/administration area

  • Changerooms, toilets and amenities

  • Storage

The business plan is available for public comment via the City’s online community engagement hub.
