Victoria’s latest mineral bathing retreat opened in Sorrento
The ongoing growth of Victoria’s mineral bathing sector has seen the Aurora Spa Group open a new indoor mineral bathing retreat - the Aurora Spa and Bathhouse - at the Continental Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula.
The final part of a multi-million dollar redevelopment at the Continental Sorrento - that has included a 108-room hotel, the opening of a public bar and a new outdoor dining space - the new spa, thermal bathhouse and wellness hub opened in the run up to Christmas.
A new flagship for the award-winning Aurora Spa Group, the newly-completed 500 metre² coastal bathhouse offers a suite of mineral pools and one of the largest saunas in the southern hemisphere.
Inside, design studio Woods Baggot has created a stylish coastal-inspired sanctuary filled with neutral tones, sandy terrazzo tile and oak panelling, aligning to their design notes in the adjacent hotel.
Offering a modern take on traditional bathing practices, Aurora is kitted out with a suite of state-of-the-art facilities and experiences including a Nordic-style sauna, plunge pool, an aromatherapy steam room, a 36-degree sky-lit Daydream Pool, a reflexology pool and a suite dedicated to halotherapy - a treatment that involves breathing in salty air.
Other features include Centella Thermal Lounges and a custom-designed Glacial Mist Room - a chamber that's dialled into between 6 and 10 degrees, and recreates the elements of wind, rain, mist and ice.
The adjoining spa is offering treatments ranging from holistic facial therapies and massages, to algae body wraps and botanically-charged scrubs.
Pioneered by Peninsula Hot Springs, the Mornington Peninsula bathhouse sector was also recently enhanced by the Alba Thermal Springs and Spa.
