Peninsula Hot Springs Group announces partnership to develop new experience in East Gippsland
The Peninsula Hot Springs Group has partnered with East Gippsland tourism operators Rachel and Adrian Bromage to develop a new hot springs attraction in picturesque Metung.
Grant support from the State and Federal Government will enable Metung Hot Springs to raise the additional funds needed to bring to life a new regional hot springs development in a location recently devastated by bushfires, severe drought and the economic impact of the COVID 19 pandemic.
Combining the experience from the team behind Australia’s most visited hot spring (Peninsula Hot Springs welcomes over 500,000 guests per year), with the expertise of local tourism operators passionate about the region, Metung Hot Springs will provide a new major attraction and drawcard for the destination.
In a statement on the venture, Peninsula Hot Springs Marketing Director, Sophie Webber advised “like Peninsula Hot Springs, Metung Hot Springs will help lift visitation to the region and break down the seasonality that sees visitation fall away when the temperatures drop.
“As the most visited attraction on the Mornington Peninsula, Peninsula Hot Springs has made a significant contribution in making the region the number one day trip destination for those visiting Victoria.”
Metung was the location of the first hot springs bathing in Victoria which closed to the public in 1992. Many locals remember days and evenings enjoying the relaxing warmth of the thermal mineral waters.
Integrating a high quality guest experience within the grounds of the Kings Cove estate, this new hot springs will create an estimated 25 jobs during construction and a further 35 full time jobs upon completion.
An initial $6 million infrastructure build in stage one of the project will include a glamping village and hot springs bathing on the main site with panoramic sweeping views over the Gippsland Lakes.
There will also be a ‘19th hole’ hot springs and spa relaxation centre at the King Cove Golf Club creating Australia’s first hot springs experience within a golf course.
Webber added “creating a new wellness destination in the glorious natural setting of Metung will bolster all that Gippsland has to offer, helping evolve the destination and attract visitation year round.”
