Tourism spotlight to shine on Margaret River
The Shire of Augusta-Margaret River has announced that the Australian Regional Tourism Network conference, Australia's major regional tourism conference, will be held in Margaret River in October 2013.
The conference is expected to attract 160 tourism industry delegates from across the country will visit Margaret River's top wineries and attractions generating considerable exposure for the region.
Shire President Ray Colyer says the conference will help market Margaret River to key delegates, stating "the more exposure you get from the industry the better it is that the word goes further and deeper.
"We like to consider that the Margaret River brand and the Broome brand, in regard to regional Western Australia, are the two major brands for tourism, so this is important for the Margaret River brand."
Colyer says local businesses will benefit during the conference and in the long-term, adding "it's good for the town and it's good for the businesses in town while they're here, but certainly with a convention that's got tourism delegates, it's very, very good for the Margaret River brand and Western Australia in particular because these are the people that will be going back and hopefully talking up what a great tourism region Margaret River is."
