Quorn pool gets $300,000 cash boost
The Flinders Ranges Council has received South Australian Government funding to help finish its upgrade of the Quorn Swimming Pool.
A $300,000 grant from a $39 million package of South Australian regional development funding will enable completion of the refurbishment, which includes installation of a wet deck and disabled ramp, an upgraded canteen, installation of a new balance tank at the deep end of the pool, and an upgraded filtration system.
Unique Urban Built and Grieve Gillette Architects designed a new plant room and chemical store to be functional and safe with the pool filtration system housed along with the major electrical services. The design team made the plant room larger than briefed with a two-way roller door to allow for the safe delivery of chemicals and access for maintenance purposes when the pool is in use.
Unique Urban Built also produced a series of hold points for all works to ensure engineering inspections took place at critical points to ensure compliance and to effectively manage the works with an exceptional outcome.
The Pool’s new canteen is functional in its design with clear line of sight to the pool areas, most importantly the children’s pool. Undercover seating and an effective shade structure provides a suitable area for meals bringing vibrancy to the area and allows for a quicker turnover at the canteen.
Commenting on the funding, South Australian Regional Development Minister Geoff Brock told the ABC "what we have to do as a Government and as communities is make certain we keep continually trying to improve the facilities and the attraction here.
"For Quorn, (the pool is an) integral part not only of the community but also for the school.”
The regional development funding will also see the Whyalla's Leisure Centre gain $320,000 for improvements including pool upgrades and a new roof with better lighting and ventilation in the gymnasium.
