Brisbane's River to Rooftop event returns for a good cause

Brisbane’s corporate, fitness and philanthropic community are once again participating in the annual charity event, River to Rooftop ‘indoor vertical fun run’ on Friday, 7th August.

Brisbane’s River to Rooftop challenging event raises much needed funds for Women’s Legal Service of Queensland (WLSQ). The service provides free legal advice and support for women and children to escape domestic and family violence.

Participants will scale 1,040 stairs to the rooftop of the iconic ONE ONE ONE Eagle Street skyscraper in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD. While there will be some elite athletes at the event, many of the entrants are happy to simply participate, have a laugh or compete against their work rivals or friends on the day either as a solo entrant or part of a team, plus get the best rooftop selfie in Brisbane!

Early bird discount registrations of $38 are open until Saturday 14th March with each participant encouraged to raise a minimum of $200 in fundraising.

WLSQ Chief Executive Angela Lynch advised “we certainly have some serious stair climbing athletes at the event.

“But there are plenty of others with moderate fitness levels who see River to Rooftop as a personal goal to be more active and raise funds for a worthwhile cause.

“As well as some puffing there’s a fair bit of laughter going on in the stairwell each year.”

Entrants can tackle the 1040 stairs solo or as part of a team. Teams must have a minimum of four climbers and there is no maximum number on any one team.  Categories include: Individual, Team, Elite or Multiple - yes, some people do opt to undertake the climb more than once!

Great prizes are available for the fastest team, woman and man, as well as the highest individual and team fundraisers. Other participants will enjoy the satisfaction of knowing they have helped women and children escape to safety as well as receiving a custom finisher’s medal.

Tragically, one woman a week is killed in Australia as a result of domestic violence and each year WLSQ provides over 30,000 support services to women and their children.

At the 2019 River to Rooftop event, an impressive $120,000 was raised and organisers are hopeful that will be surpassed in 2020.
