Touch Projects appointed to assist with delivery of Monash Tennis Centre

The $26.7million Monash Tennis Centre in Glen Waverley has moved into the design phase with the announcement that Touch Projects has been appointed to provide project management services.

The 18-court public tennis centre received $21 million in funding from the Victorian Government and a $5.77 million commitment from City of Monash.

The tennis centre anticipated to be ready for play by early 2024, adds another facility to this well-known sporting precinct which already offers netball, softball and golf.

Touch Projects has overseen a number of major projects in Victoria, including the Maroondah District Aquatic Centre in Ringwood for the Maroondah City Council and the Thomastown Recreation and Aquatic Centre for the City of Whittlesea. It has also collaborated extensively with Parks Victoria on projects, including the Wilsons Promontory Light Station, Twelve Apostles lookout, Grampians Peak Trails project and the Port Campbell Creek pedestrian bridge.

City of Monash has also decided to retain the Halcyon Positive Ageing Activity Centre at its current location adjoining the tennis centre site. Users of the centre and their families have been informed and are pleased with the decision. Council has also advised nearby residents that the centre will remain.

Monash Mayor Brian Little said Council was pleased to have the support of families at Halcyon, and is delighted to welcome Touch Projects on board and to see the project moving forward.

Mayor Little advised “we are excited that this project has moved into the design phase and to have an organisation involved with the experience of Touch Projects will ensure its smooth delivery.

“This tennis centre is an exciting project for the community and will greatly enhance what is an outstanding sports precinct. Council can’t wait to get started and deliver such a top-class facility for the community.”

Touch Projects Chief Executive Nick Savvas enthused “we are thrilled to be appointed as project managers and assisting the City of Monash with the delivery of the new tennis centre in Glen Waverley.

“These new facilities will underpin the growth in tennis participation and will greatly improve the amenity for people using these sporting facilities for generations to come.”

Applications for the architectural services contract have now closed and Council is currently assessing candidates. An announcement on the successful applicant will be made shortly. It is expected that the design phase will continue until early-2022 with construction to commence in mid-2022 and that the centre will be ready for play in early-2024.

Council will continue to inform and consult with local residents as the design phase of the project progresses.
