Tennant Creek pool plans move forward
Residents in the Northern Territory town of Tennant Creek will soon enjoy a new pool complex and sport facilities, with plans being drafted for a significant upgrade of amenities at the town's Purkiss Reserve.
Barkly Shire Council has recently awarded a contract to design a new aquatic centre and adjacent sports club change rooms to Hames-Sharley, the same company that previously worked on ANZAC Oval in Alice Springs and the Adelaide Oval redevelopment.
Council Executive Director Operations Henry Szczypiorski advised the ABC that the projects were able to move forward having secured funding from the Federal Government's Regional Development Australia Fund (RDAF).
Szczypiorski stated "both these projects, the submission we put through to the Commonwealth 12 months ago was very much focused on a positive outcome for the community, providing a healthy focus for the community in terms of recreation as well as other health-related matters."
Szczypiorski added that the development will significantly improve the town's amenities, explaining "a total renewal of the swimming pool complex and that would mean a new pool, new refurbished change rooms, an administration block, new filtration equipment.
"So what we'll end up with is (a) brand new facility and the football ground certainly has been looking for ... well needed change rooms and certainly will be provided with the best of what we can afford."
