Young gets RDAF monies for pool shading and cinema roof
The town of Young in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales is to receive a $230,000 from the Federal Government's Regional Development Australia Fund, which Young Shire Council will use to replace the roof of the town's Southern Cross Cinema and to upgrade shading at the Young Aquatic Centre.
Managed by the Young District Arts Council with the help of volunteers, the Southern Cross Hall is the home to the Southern Cross Cinema.
Built in 1924, to accommodate the growing need for an entertainment venue for the region, the Hall has operated as a cinema since March 2004.
Beyond extending and improving the shading that currently covers the tiered seating area at the seasonal Young Aquatic Centre, the Council has plans to develop an indoor heated pool as of 2016.
