Sydney Showground encouraged by return of events

Sydney Showground has advised that December has been an encouraging month with events of all sizes slowly returning to the venue, and with preparations for the Sydney Royal Easter Show in April well underway they are looking forward to a promising 2021.

2021 will see the return of the Big Bash League Cricket season in January, Sydney Showground will then bring guests the AGHA Gift Fair in February before working with Expertise Events to host the first-ever, 'Oz Comic-Con Pop-up event' in March, followed the full convention in September. The GWS GIANTS will once again be hitting the field, with the Dog Lovers Show and Jay Chou entertaining the masses later in 2021.

It was a rare glimpse into normality last weekend as Sydney Showground welcomed 11,150 guests to the Sydney Pregnancy, Babies and Children’s Expo (PBCE).

Dispersing crowds through strategically planned session times and additional venue space thanks to Sydney Showground’s COVID-19 support options, PBCE Managing Director, Cameron Just said the event’s success came down to great collaboration.

Just advised “in delivering our December exhibition, we were fortunate enough to work with a venue that was flexible, supportive and solution-focused. The team at Sydney Showground went above and beyond to ensure we were able to run our event and provided a COVID Safe environment for both visitors and exhibitors.

“The show delivered above expectations with over 11,000 quality buyers. The collaborative attitude provided a win, win scenario for the venue, buyers, sellers and the PBCE team.”

Sydney Showground General Manager, Peter Thorpe said it was fantastic to see the site come alive with crowds again and added “it is always such a wonderful feeling to watch an event come to life, particularly when everyone has been so devoted to ensuring its success.

“As this challenging year finally comes to a close; it is a great time to acknowledge all the support the event industry has received and also, celebrate the unique partnerships and a strengthened sense of community that has arisen during this difficult time. While many events have been cancelled or postponed, others have defied the odds and delivered seamless COVIDSafe events that have driven the return of the event industry.

“Just here at Sydney Showground, we have seen things look a little different as our amphitheatre transformed into dance concerts for end of year recitals, AFL matches proceeded without crowds and exhibitions returned with social distancing measures in place, and crowds as enthusiastic as ever.

“As we step into a New Year, Sydney Showground and many other event venues and organisers are looking to the future to see what 2021 will bring and so far, the calendar is filling up!”
